“Don’t let your courage fail!”

2chron157  “But in their distress they turned to the Lord God of Israel, and they sought Him, and He let them find Him…But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work.” 2 Chronicles 15:4,7 When Asa was King of Judah, he was in a massive struggle against godlessness. The Word tells us that he did what was good and right in the sight of the LORD (which always brings opposition, AMEN?! 🙂 ).  Once when a massive million-men Ethiopian army came down against Asa and his 580,000, Asa called out to the Lord: “Lord, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O Lord our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.” So, the LORD routed the army so that the twice-as-big fled before the valiant of Judah and Benjamin, because the dread of the Lord fell upon them! What an answer to prayer. Shortly after that, the Spirit of God came upon the prophet Azariah, who went to Asa with a warning, saying “Listen to me…” Azariah encouraged Asa to seek the Lord, and to be strong. Asa went on to take bold steps of reform and “Judah rejoiced…for they had sworn with their whole heart and had sought Him earnestly, and He let them find Him.” Asa was strong and courageous in his work and was committed to seeking God and it paid off as Judah enjoyed the presence of God and peace on every side. Wow, do I draw comfort from this. Sisters, do you ever feel outnumbered? Like the battle you are in requires more strength than you have? If you are committed to standing for truth and serving your family in your home you may be certain that the enemy wants to destroy you. But listen! That work you’re doing? That daily battle against selfishness, humbly and lovingly correcting and training your children, serving your husband and praying diligently for him, standing for truth and being a witness in your community – be strong in it! Be courageous, because there is a great reward coming. When you feel overwhelmed and weak (hello!) remember the prayer of Asa: “…so help us, O Lord our God; let not man prevail against You.” And get excited to watch the Lord route the enemy before you as only He can. And maybe God wants you to be an ‘Azariah’ for some ‘Asa’ in your life. Who do you see that is standing against the darkness and needs your challenge and encouragement? As Elisabeth Elliot wrote in “The Music of His Promises”: ”We do need to be assured that what we are trying to do is worthwhile. If it is for God, an effort to stand against anything that opposes Him and to stand, humbly and even alone if necessary, for His kingdom, we can be perfectly sure our work is not useless. It will be rewarded in God’s time. Don’t let your courage fail!” ❤ jc
